Benefits of joining
Information
When you have a question about a policy, a practice, training, recruitment or anything related to human resources management, we will endeavour to find an answer from a fellow member, from our own resources or from external sources such as a legal helpline.
Exchange of information
We facilitate the exchange of information between members either by passing on work (such as a policy) generously made available by a member, or by putting members in touch where we know they are working on the same issue.
Discounts
Your organisation will receive a discount of 50% on all workshop fees and a reduction in the price of any publications purchased.
Shaping our agenda
Members are encouraged to tell us what work they think needs to be done, in terms of research for example, and would be better done by a central resource such as us than by individual agencies.
Recognition
International recognition for your good practice in HR management takes the form of People In Aid awarded quality mark. As you implement the People In Aid Code, you become eligible for quality marks which are available for you to use on any of your media, and your progress is highlighted on our website.
Networking
We offer opportunities to become involved in working groups on key aspects of HR management in the sector, such as reward, HR management in emergencies etc. In addition we provide various opportunities to network at affinity groups, workshops, conferences and other events.
Enhanced profile of your agency
We regularly ask our members to provide us with examples of good practice which we can highlight in newsletters, handbooks, events and the People In Aid Code.
Supporting your Code work
As you work to implement the People In Aid Code we support you with practical help on the process and on the HR policies and practices you wish to improve.
Newsletter
In electronic or printed version - you may ask for as many printed copies of our quarterly newsletter as you wish to distribute to your colleagues.
Free materials
Most sponsored research we undertake includes the cost of one free copy of the final output per member organisation. Other free materials are posted on our website for download.
Bi-monthly circular
Every second month we send you an update on our and our members’ activities and resources to look out for.
Benchmarking
As more and more members implement the Code so it will be easier to extract benchmarks for circulation to other members. Other research and surveys are run on an ad hoc basis.
Governance and AGM
All members are encouraged to take part in the governance process by attending the AGM and standing for election to the Board of Trustees.
Deals
Sometimes we are offered commercial deals, eg reduced costs of others’ training or free coaching, which we can pass on to members.
Membership fee discounts for partners
We offer reduced membership rates to partner NGOs in developing countries if an International NGO member of People In Aid pays the membership fee.
Membership categories
We are sure you will benefit from membership, whatever your organisation’s size, structure or location. There are two categories of membership:
- Full – operational agencies, primarily not for profit organisations, actively involved in international relief and development work.
- Associate – other organisations supporting the aims of People In Aid that wish to share in our output.
Quality Marks
Two quality marks are now awarded by People In Aid in response to increasing calls for certification.
The first requires members to show evidence of their commitment to good practice: the criteria are explained on www.peopleinaid.org/code/implementation.aspx.
Members implementing the People In Aid Code, using the externally-assured social audit process, will be awarded a further quality mark to show stakeholders (staff, donors, beneficiaries and more) their commitment to improving the way in which they manage their people. Implementing agencies are asked to pay a contribution in addition to the membership fee.
